What is the purpose of this website? This website serves as the central repository for all content commissioned by Austro. Currently, I'm commissioning artwork for my webcomics in development, and having a dedicated hub for them is essential to me. I also value fan feedback, which is why you'll find sections where you can leave comments, reviews, and even engage with other fans in the forum.
-
Why did you choose the name "Austro's Lost Adventures"The Official Lost Adventures, originally published in 2011 and republished in 2019 with Avatar Tales, is a collection of 26 short comics that fill in gaps and add extra context to the Avatar world. Similarly, "Austro's Lost Adventures" follows this same approach, delivering both canonically accurate portrayals and fresh, original stories to enrich the universe.
-
Why are you making ATLA Fancomics?I've always been an Avatar fan but never really engaged with the fandom. That all changed after watching N:ATLA. I had a lot of critiques, which led me to Reddit for the first time (for better or worse, lol). It got me thinking—I could create my own stories and put my money where my mouth is. Instead of complaining all day, why not do something and create stories that respect canon and resonate with fans? Kaiya has always been the type of villain I've wanted to write, and Avatar seemed like the perfect setting. Throw in Toph, Sokka, and some insane bending sequences, and you have a thrilling chain of events! The Flames of Kaiya is actually just the first chapter of my fanfic of the same name which you can find on AO3. I only plan on adapting the first chapter, though. With Ty Lee's backstory, I've always wondered what led her to run away and join the circus. To me, the devil is always in the details, and my mind went into overdrive thinking about the exact circumstances. I had a lot of fun crafting a story about how things might have played out, and I'm very excited to share it with everyone!
-
What inspired your creative process for these stories?I can't pin point one specific thing, thoughts are random and not exactly measurable. But mainly I look for interesting gaps that could be explored a lot more. Popular characters like Ty Lee, Sokka, Toph ect also help with audience interest.
-
What kind of comics do you have planned next? All comics will be canonically accurate and set within the ATLA franchise. They are planned to feature Gaang, Azula, Mai, Ozai, virtually the entire main cast, and most of the supporting characters. Some stories may take place before canonical events, some during, and some after the conclusion of Book 3.
-
Why the Fire Nation Theme? Do you only do Fire Nation Comics?I love the Fire Nation and my first two comics, Flames of Kaiya & Ty Lee Joins the Circus! Do heavily feature The Fire Nation/Firebending. However, this isn't to say I'm only going to be strictly adhering to the Fire Nation for future comics. I have a variety of scripts written, the goal now is to bring them to life!
-
What challenges have you faced in creating these comics?People. When you work with people you're dealing with personalities and personalities don't always mesh well. I had a rocky relationship with my first artist, but I'm working very well with my new and current artist, Kuzo Nami. We've been hitting every deadline and the content is turning out amazing!
-
How do you ensure canon accuracy in your stories?By doing research. And when I'm done, I do research, again. Theres been many times where I think I know a character, but it turns out I'm merely projecting my own preferences & biases onto them. Conveying a character the way the original writers intended is the only way to portray them accurately, adhering to canon.
-
Do you collaborate with other creators in the fandom?Outside of feedback & advice, no. The only ones producing content are me (Austro) and my artist (Kuzo Nami)
-
Who is working on the webcomics hosted here?Austro is the Writer & Letterer for all webcomics on this website. Kuzo Nami is the active artist, though Newp created the cover and the first twelve pages for Avatar: The Flames of Kaiya. He is no longer active on the production team.
-
Can I share your comics on other platforms?Yes! Please spread the comics far and wide. The more eyes on my content, the larger this Fan Comic community can grow!
-
Will there be opportunities for fan contributions (e.g., art contests or guest writers)?Probably not in the near future, but never say never! In the coming years I might hold writing competition of who can come up with the best short script (Of around four pages) and may greenlight it if it's interesting enough.
-
How do I give feedback on a comic?Feedback can be given in the comments section at the bottom of the comic page. You can also create an account on the forums and make a post! I am very active on Discord so it's probably the best place to reach me.
-
What is the Release Schedule?Pages are typically released at the beginning of each month. Be sure to subscribe to our news section to receive notifications whenever a new post is published!
-
How can I support your work?Thank you so much for your support! Please head over to the Donations section. Any amount helps!
-
Are there age restrictions for your comics?Nothing higher than PG 13. I aim to adhere to ATLA's G rating as closely as possible with some exceptions when it comes to violence, but nothing too crazy.
-
Will you expand beyond webcomics in the future?I have commissioned artwork of Kaiya that I plan to post if I commission any more content that would warrant an 'Extras' section. But I'm primarily sticking to comics.
-
I have an idea for a comic. Will you create it?Thank you for your interest in collaborating! At this time, I only commission comics that I write myself. I appreciate your understanding and encourage you to keep sharing your creative ideas!
-
Do you have any plans to translate your comics into other languages?Unfortunately, I do not have the resources to provide my comics in any language other than English. However, Mundo de avatares has translated some of Flames of Kaiya into Spanish and is interested in translating more pages. Be sure to keep updated with their progress!
